Counselling is a talking therapy. There are different types of therapy, I use a person-centred approach. A professional counsellor will support and help empower you to find your own solutions and support you as you put them into action.

There are times where talking to family or friends about things isn’t enough for us, their connection to us can allow them to give us many different opinions, react in ways that may not be helpful, become deeply involved which can then create complexities that can overwhelm us.A professional counsellor will support and help empower you to find your own solutions and support you as you put them into action. abuse, loneliness, emotional abuse...

Living with these can be disruptive, frightening, or even life threatening, and it can become all too easy for it to feel like we then become these, that they come to define who we are. Undealt with we can learn to push some things to the side, ignore them and just live with them and the weight they carry, and sometimes not. This can go on and on and our mental health can suffer more and more until we make a decision that something needs to change.

It doesn’t have to be like this.

We don’t have to feel we are owned by those past events, or those feelings and thoughts that trigger problems. We don’t have to put up with situations that are hurting us or making our lives unhappy. We don’t have to accept that disruptive or damaging situation as just part of our lives. We don’t have to succumb to that dread and fear whenever a certain situation brings those fears to the surface. We don’t have to accept that our diagnosis defines us, we don’t have to live every day in fear and unhappiness, we don’t have to allow other’s reactions to us to define us and our lives. We don’t have to feel confused lost and alone when we are struggling with our identity. We don’t have to suffer consequences of other peoples actions. We don’t have to suffer alone, or suffer at all.

Counselling Can help

I offer "walking talk therapy", which means I will meet you at a pre-arranged place and we will walk for an hour. This can be helpful if you are struggling to find the time to fit in coming to see me; it also has the added benefit of exercise in the outside air. I will come to your home if you are finding it difficult to get out to see me. This will of course mean you will have to make sure there is a quiet place for an hour each week where we can meet. email therapy and internet therapy to come
